"The Veldt" Ray Bradbury notes:


  • Deadmau5's song "The Veldt" illustrates A
  • The children's names Peter and Wendy, alludes to story of Peter Pan , emphasizing their (unhealthy) imaginary obsessions, similarly allusions are made to OZ and Wonderland (120)
  • The story is also an allegory for the concerns of TV's effects on youth. 
Page 129- George shuts everything down in house, Peter: "I wish you were dead", George: "We were once, we are going to live now!"..... Irony.

Page 118- paragraph- first full one. Think about two things that are happening which are both things Bradbury has done in previous stories. What is is? 5 senses, metaphor, change POV.

Bradbury's style

  • Favors 3rd person POV (limited omniscient, and objective) 
  • Shifs POV temporarily ( EG: into 2nd person) and perspective (at end).
  • Metaphors and similes 
  • Foreshadowing
  • A dramatic shift in tone at ending. (Irony)
  • Motifs used a lot
  • He often references the 5 senses. 
  • Names usually caries significance (EG: Peter and Wendy).
  • Alludes often, to poetry (EG: "Song to Celia")
  • Ends with ambiguity (unclear).
