June 3rd

Talked about the exam for this course:

  • There are 3 parts:
    • Read something and then answer some questions.
    • Written (essay)
    • Oral (discussion) 
Pick a poem for Monday, so we can do a POETRY CAFE! 
The poem should be no less than 18 lines long, and MUST BE APPROPRIATE!! It can be longer, just no shorter.

Of what we have studied: 
1. What text most impacted culture?
1. What text was most influenced by culture?
2. Who was the most likable character we encountered?

2. Who was the most unlikable character we encountered?
3. What is the one best way to communicate messages implicitly? 
4. What medium best communicates its message?
5. Whose language/text was most effective?

Answer ALL of these questions, as in class Hanlon will ask you to answer some of them (random). You will be asked 1 or more, so make sure to know the answer before class MONDAY.

June 1st

Significance of motifs:
  • Snakes: Dangers to love/hate/deception. 
  • Dreams: Emphasizes surrealism/ questions of reality/ confusion.
  • Moon: Sets atmosphere, passage of time, and emphasizes purity.

Criticism of theater:
  • Poor staging.
  • Melodrama.
  • Poor concentration.
  • Malapropisms.
  • Failing to maintain illusion of reality.
  • Exaggerated euphony (alliteration).

We worked on the play, and the breakdown. And we got a new package.

May 9th

Malapropism: The incorrect use of a word. "bad use". (Bottom).
Spoonerism: Mix up first letter of words.

Did a creative writing assignment with malapropisms.

A changeling is a mystical being: if there is something wrong with the baby (defect) blame on fairies. Called it a changeling- "fairy child". Not their TRUE child- a replacement.
